First Draft
I made quite a few drafts for my college magazine cover. This was my first.
I don't think the image was very good because she's not in the middle of the frame, she's more towards the bottom. You can also see the door frame that she's stood next to which doesn't look very good.
For my second draft, I tried to make the magazine look more seasonal.
I like this draft but the image is sitll too low down and she's not in the middle of the magazine. I also think that the things I've put on the front aren't that interesting and wouldn't make me want to read the magazine.
This is my favourite draft and although its not finished, I think I'll use it for my final cover. I prefer the plain background to the red one and I think the title is much better. I've used alot more different varieties of font and different colours which i think all go together well. This magazine cover would appeal more to me as a student.
Pictures
My brief said that I had to have an image of one person on the fornt of my magazine so I went out and took some photo's of a few of my freinds.
I like this photo because she looks happy to be at college and there is enough room to get a title abover her head. I think the red background fits in with the christmas season.
I took a few more pictures with differet backgrounds just to get some more ideas.
I like the white background more than the red one, and I think if I used this image, then I would have a wider range of colours to choose from for the title.
Planning Work
My magazine will be aimed at college students, between the ages of 16-20, both male and female. This will be a college publication so it makes sense for my target audience to be students who use the facilities on a regular basis, and gain the most from the magazine. I would like my magazine to attract students attention and make them want to read it.
I looked at some student magazines that I found interesting.
I think this magazine cover appeals more to females rather than males. The writing is quite girly in the font and the colours. The woman on the cover is attractive therefore making a girl want to read the magazine or be that person's friend. I like how there isn't too much writing on the front cover but the main focus is on the woman's face, not the contents or name of the magazine itself.

Preliminary Task.
As part of my research, I looked at different college magazines to get ideas on layout and what sort of things to put on my magazine cover that would make students want to read it.

Although this is a college magazine about sports, I like the way it's laid out. However, I don't like how the person's head is on the title of the magazine covering up the letter 'p'.
I want to make sure that my front cover picture isn't overlapping anything.

Introduction
As part of my AS media coursework, the preliminary brief requires me to create the front and contents page of a college magazine featuring a photograph of a student in a medium close up. I have created this blog to record my research and planning which will help me produce a successful magazine.
